Watch Out For Fraud in Taylorsville

Your security and privacy is one of our biggest concerns at Taylorsville Beehive Credit Union. We work hard to protect your information and maintain a safe and secure environment as your financial stronghold.

We have learned that a fraudulent email has been sent out to some of our Taylorsville members claiming to be from Taylorsville Beehive Credit Union. This fraudulent email is falsely warning members that their account has been suspended for a ‘billing failure’. The email asks for the member to update information and has a link to a page that has been made to look like the Taylorsville BeeOnline login screen.

We’re taking this opportunity to remind you that Taylorsville Beehive Credit Union will never ask you to update your information via email.

Online predators will fabricate fraudulent emails in an attempt to trick you into divulging your username and password. They warn you of a false problem with your account, and then lead you to a cleverly disguised website where you are asked to enter your username and password. Once you enter your information, the thieves capture your information and may attempt to use it to gain access to your accounts. The process is called ‘phishing‘, and much like regular fishing, they are sending these emails to thousands of individuals hoping that one or two will bite.

Some important things you need to remember to protect yourself from thieves trying to gain your information via email are:

  • Be suspicious of emails that include urgent requests for information. Phishers usually use falsely exciting or upsetting statements to get people to react immediately without thinking.
  • Never follow a link if you suspect the message may be fraudulent. Call the company the message is claiming to be from to learn of its accuracy. It’s always safer to type in the address that you normally access the website with. In our case, ‘www.beehivecredit.com‘. Make sure the address in your browser is indeed the address of the site you’re trying to reach.
  • Avoid filling out forms sent via email. Never enter your information if you don’t see a picture of a locked padlock in your browser indicating a secure connection. If you are unsure, the best way to confirm is to type he address you know to be correct into your browser.
